Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. The rating system offers a robust program to concretely achieve a sustainable, prosperous future for buildings, cities and communities. LEED transforms the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.
LEED in Our Work
The LEED rating system is vital for concrete implementation of the USEE mission and our core sustainability frameworks, such as the UN SDGs, Circular Economy, Biomimicry and Sustainable Agriculture. The LEED program’s clear data driven approach to benchmark and communicate progress provides a strong solid framework to uphold the SDG’s triple bottom line in building environmentally sensitive, socially responsible and economically-viable communities in our project designs.
Using our own projects as a springboard, our partnership with the government also aims to impact energy efficiency and sustainability in existing government and commercial buildings in The Gambia. Beginning with the Gambian government’s own portfolio of buildings, USEE will target clean energy and zero waste through the LEED framework. This positions the government to implement broader policy changes and compliance for energy efficiency and sustainability in buildings in The Gambia and hence brings The Gambia closer to achieving the UN SDGs.
